INTRODUCTION TO THE TOPIC

Our topic question is: How might ethnic group differences effect who controls resources and power in a society?  From a local to a global level, it is easy to see that different ethnic groups control different things and it is becoming hard to bring different ethnic groups together. In most countrys, one ethnic group controls more powers and resources than the other. Sometimes, the group in power is determined by who has the greater population and who was in the country first or who is the original ethnicity of the country. Ethnic conflict and disagreements are caused when:

  • People that are part of a certain ethnicity do more to benefit their own ethnicity than other ethnicities.

  • People from different ethnic groups have certain beliefs and refuse to negotiate. That causes hostility in some situations.

  • In some situations, the government may believe that if one part of an ethnic group is bad than the whole group is bad.

  • Ethnic groups with a long history of disagreements tend to be more hostile towards other groups.

  • A lot of people refuse to admit they are wrong, even though they know they are.

  • The beliefs of some groups are so diverse that it is hard to find things to agree on.
