The genocide began very suddenly. It all started on April 6, 1994. After the death of the Rwandan President, Juvenal Habyarimana, the people burst into an outrage. Everyone was in shock over what had happened, and they blamed the presidents death on the first people they thought of, the Tutsis. The RPF (Rwandan Patriotic Front) had been causing trouble in Rwanda recently, so they were an easy target to put the blame on. All over Rwanda, people heard the news of their President's shocking death and how the RPF had shot down his plane. The RPF denied any involvment in the crash, but  it was too late. Already, minutes after the anouncement, Hutus everywhere were running throught the streets with machetes murdering any Tutsis that they saw. The radio would also say the names of "traitors" and Tutsis and tell people to find, and kill them. It was the beggining of a 100 day mass killing spree.
