THE TRAIL OF TEARS

There are too many examples of ethnic group differences to list, many events played major roles in how we live our lives today. One major event is the Trail of Tears in 1838. The Trail of Tears was an event in which thousands of Native Americans from 5 tribes were forced to move further west by the white settlers. As they marched further west, disease and starvation caused 1 in 4 people to die during the journey. Today, the Trail of Tears is a perfect example of how differences between ethnic groups can cause conflict. The white settlers had much more power and resources than the Native Americans. They had an army of men, armed with rifles. The Native Americans had no choice but to move west. The Native Americans that had to move came from all over the country, from Oklahoma, to Wisconsin. Today, the Trail of Tears is an example of an ethnic conflict that helped to shape how America looks today. It goes to show how little changes in history can change the outcome of how people live in the years to come.
